Name

Humanrights.ch was founded in 1999 as a sucessor organisation of the «Academy for Human Rights / AMR». Between 1999 and 2006 the association carried the name Human Rights Switzerland (Menschenrechte Schweiz / MERS) before it took on its present name in 2006.

Purpose

The Association humanrights.ch aims better incorporating human rights into daily life by

  • raising the awareness of public opinion on human rights issues
  • organising projects in the field of education on human rights
  • providing information to non-governmental organisations
  • coordinating and compiling complementary NGO reports on human rights conventions.

Statements and NGO reports

Humanrights.ch compiles consultative commentaries and opinions on legal issues and possible future laws. In cooperation with other NGOs, it also composes so-called shadow reports on official Swiss coverage regarding the implementation of alreadyratified human rights conventions

Cooperation with the Swiss Centre of Expertise in Human Rights (SCHR)

Humanrights.ch is a partner organisation of the SCHR, and is contractually responsible for the operation of the SCHR website and for the SCHR newsletter. In addition, humanrights.ch occupies a bridging function between the SCHR and organisations of the civil society.

Advice for victims of racial discrimination

This project includes the support of advice centres for victims of racial discrimination, the development of a case monitoring system for advisory bodies, the publication of a handbook which includes, for example, a legal guide, a platform for professional exchange between contact points and advice centres, as well as possibilities for training and further education for advisory staff.

Help point for human rights education

Manifold offers and activities for human rights education at school and in extra-curricular environments.

Seminars und further training

We organise seminars, meetings and further training events regarding miscellaneous human rights topics.
