60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
On 10 December 2008, Human Rights Day, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) celebrates its 60th birthday. The short text was written in 1948 and soon became one of the most influential documents of modern times. Translated in more than 300 languages, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was the first international recognition that all human beings have fundamental rights and freedom. The Anniversary reminds that human rights are far from being implemented universally.
Many websites are dedicated to this important event, as the following first section suggests. The second following section of links aims to draw the attention on certain activities and reactions in Switzerland. The last two sections present some informative material.
