UN Human Rights Committee
The monitoring of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights is the task of the Human Rights Committee (CCPR), which consists of 18 independent experts. It convenes in Geneva or New York three times annually for three weeks respectively. Its assignments include the auditing of the Country Reports (the first report is due one year after entry into force and every four years thereafter).

General Comments
The Human Rights Committee has released 33 General Comments to date that aim to ascertain the individual rights listed in the covenant.

Individual Complaint Process
The Human Rights Committee decides on individual complaints against states that have recognized the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of 1966. Until today, far over 100 complaints have been registered.
