Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime
This Protocol supplements the UN Convention against Transitional Organised Crime, which was created to promote cooperation to prevent and combat transnational organised crime more effectively. It entered into force on 25 December 2003.
The Statement of Purpose found in Article 2 of the Protocol states the following:
(a) To prevent and combat trafficking in persons, paying particular attention to women and children;
(b) To protect and assist the victims of such trafficking, with full respect for their human rights; and
(c) To promote cooperation among States Parties in order to meet those objectives.”
