The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and Switzerland

The decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on appeals originating from Switzerland are not only of eminent importance for the plaintiffs, but they have been influencing the Swiss legal system ever since the first verdict on Switzerland was passed 35 years ago. Although in the past few years critical voices have reproached the ECHR for interfering with our independent legal system too strongly, the overall balance of the ECHR for legal protection in Switzerland was and remains distinctly positive.
