Fair Wear: fair working conditions in garment industry
From 5 June, 2007 on, working conditions in the garment industry will be verified independently and internationally. Indeed, ISCOM (International Social Compliance Verification), an initiative of Bread for all (Switzerland), the Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund and the Max Havelaar-Foundation (Switzerland) joined forces with the Fair Wear Foundation in the Netherlands - an initiative of business associations in the garment sector, trade unions, and NGO. Both organisations work towards improving working conditions in the garment industry and carry out independent verification of code of conduct implementation by participating companies. ISCOM is a follow up of the Clean Clothes Campaign.
