Switzerland and the UN: 2008 Report
On 21 May 2008, the Federal Council adopted for the attention of the federal chambers of parliament its 2008 report on Switzerland's relations with the United Nations (UN) and with international organisations which have their headquarters in Switzerland. This sixth report drew up a positive overall balance of our country's participation in the work of the UN. Being the 14th largest contributor and a major partner with the UN, Switzerland could be considered a "significant partner" within the UN. Therefore, the Federal Council is keen that Switzerland should be represented in all the leading bodies whose activities correspond to Switzerland's foreign policy priorities. Switzerland will be a candidate for a second mandate in the Human Rights Council for the period 2010-2013. The report presents also Switzerland's priorities for the 63rd session of the General Assembly.
