Amnesty International Report 2009
Presented on 28 Mai 2009, the latest annual report of the international human rights organisation presents the dramatic effects of the economic crisis on human rights. «It's not just the economy, it's a human rights crisis – the world is sitting on a social, political and economic time bomb», said Irene Khan, Secretary General of Amnesty International. «Governments should invest in human rights as purposefully as they are investing in economic growth.»
A section of the Report is dedicated to Switzerland. The following issues are highlighted: inadequate legislation to provide effective protection against discrimination as well as allegations of racial discrimination, including ill-treatment of foreigners, by law enforcement officials. The Report also shows that restrictive Swiss legislation violated the economic, social and cultural rights of asylum-seekers and irregular migrants.
On 3 June, 2009, Amnesty International also unveiled the Demand Dignity campaign. This is a long-term campaign that will focus on tackling exclusion, discrimination, marginalisation and poverty.
