Convention against discrimination of women: Periodic report 2008-2009

On 2 April 2008, the Swiss Federal Council approved the Third Report on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) which was this time compiled by the FDFA. It was discussed by the 44th Commission on the Status of Women taking place in New York between 20 Juli and 7 August 2009.

Follow-up procedure

In section 51 of its concluding observations on the second and third periodic reports 2009, the UN commission has asked Switzerland «to provide written information within the next two years on the measures taken for the implementation of the recommendations contained in sections 28 and 44». These recommendations address the issue of violence against women and girls (section 28) as well as effective measures to eliminate discrimination against women of ethnic and minority communities and migrant women (section 44). In June 2012, Switzerland forwarded the called for report. In its 54th session in February 2013, the Commission examined and assessed the state report. In her letter of 19 March 2013 the Rapporteur on follow-up of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women forwarded the decisions taken to Switzerland.
